Blackwork

Blackwork uses heavy solid black as the subject itself rather than as shading. Bold silhouettes, blackout panels, ornamental patterns, tribal-influenced forms and negative-space designs where bare skin does the drawing.

It is a powerful choice for covering old or unwanted work, because saturated black hides far more than any colour can. It also reads clearly from across a room, which is why it suits sleeves, chest panels and back pieces so well.

Solid black demands clean, even packing — patchy blackwork is obvious and difficult to correct later. Large areas are staged across sessions so the skin is never overworked in one sitting.
